Dude! Your story made me cringe! I'm still squirming and making faces.. I hope you are able to save that drum from the abusive relationship that it is currently in!

I don't have the words to properly express my horror, shock, anger, depression, melancholy and then back to horror, after reading your story. See? I keep saying it. Not everybody should be allowed to own a vintage drum (ESPECIALLY!!, a 70's Gretsch COB snare. Please tell me it wasn't a 10-lug). We have to start doing Mandatory Vintage Drum Purchase Background Checks on potential buyers of Vintage drums, by obtaining credit reports, doing site visits and providing 10 musician friend references (4 have to be vintage drum players). It's the only way! It's up at us!

Yeah people are unbelievable. Granted, he is a kid, but I see grown men doing the same thing. We go on tour and we open up for bands and during set change they are like, "how did you get your drums to sound so good?"

Then they proceed to put up their kit that is covered in gaff tape, kleenex, the heads are shot, using mis-matched sticks, wrong mounts/stands, you name it, I've seen it. It's pretty unreal. Some people just don't understand.

That was painful to read. Man, ditto what everyone else said. Sounds like Dad has more money than brains and junior is a chip off the old block. (Invonluntary shiver here).

This makes me sick. I might have done a stupid thing to my drums on occasion (even vintage ones) but never such an obvious an stupid abuse. Please save the drum from him.

And I wouldn't go back in the house without a priest, a cross, and holy water.

i think this kid should be banned from playing (beating up) any drum whether it be vintage or not, or any musical instrument for that matter.

this story makes me shivver. yeah i'm gilty of using tape on my heads at times but would never be distructive. that boy and dad both need to learn some respect.

if all possiable...get that drum back b4 it is too late.

When people know better, they do better. Talk to the dad about lessons. Show the kid how to set it up to get a good sound out of it. If that doesn't change anything, duct tape him to a bucket and beat on him!
