Bass Drum felts and the best use of Last viewed: 16 minutes ago

A substitute that works instead of felt is 50mm wide elastisized bandage (used for Sprains etc). I find it easier to position than the felt as felt will stretch and distort if you pull it too hard. I use a strip at around 7 to 11 on the reso head.

Cheers

Cheers everyone. Some excellent advice and ideas as I knew would come forth from you all. Thank you. Going to spend a (cold, wet and miserable) weekend trying out these ideas on my various bass drums. Take care.

From GoJaskill

This might be kind of off-topic, but I recently started playing a vintage 26, and am currently dealing with beater-buzz (I bury the beater when I play, a bad habit I can't seem to shake). I didn't really have this problem on my 24 or 22 or 20 inch bass drums. It seems like the bigger heads 'flop' around more, making me sound like I'm trying to add notes that I'm not trying to add. Will a felt strip help with beater-buzz? Or is it only good for muffling?

Tension the batter more, it'll have more bounce and control.
