the best is whatever works Best for you ! not what someone endorses or magazine states is the new bling of the day.

We are "brothers -in arms". I have a "Tam-Co", DW 5000, 60's Speed King and an Iron Cobra. Every time I go back to the SK it's like my favorite slippers. My Ruby slippers! I have been thinking seriously about getting Mlayton to do my mine. A lot of people here think his work on Speed Kings is the bees knees! Very tempting!
4 original Camco pedals
1 WFL Speed King
1 Ludwig Speed King
2 Rogers
1 Axis
2 Tama Iron Cobras
1 DW 9000
I pretty much only use the DW. I carry a Speed King as a backup and I'm pretty much done with the ICs (my choice before getting the DW)
I use the Camco pedals for display purposes but the earliest one i have says Camco Oaklawn, Illinois on the footboard. It is quick and quiet. It also has a leather hinge instead of metal making it extra quiet!
1 DW9000
1 DW5000 Double pedal
1 Old DW5000
1 60's Ludwig Speedking (Drumchanix refurbed)
Can't get the 5000's to feel right but use them for double bass drum practice. I would never play doubles out on a gig but I find it great practice. Speedking is alright but is not as sensitive as my 9000 which I take out to gigs. The SK gets used at home. It doesn't suit me as a pedal so much. Actually I have found that practicing on the SK makes me better and faster on the 9000's!
When I go on the road I have several DW9000's that are kept with the gear we have stored. I love them, they just work for me and what I have of a technique.
Other pedal greatest hits for me was the Pearl Eliminators that I used for years and the earlier Pearl Powershifters. Both pedals took a pounding from me and always felt good and stood up.

HA! That's funny!
For some obscure reason, the vintage equipment bug has never really bitten me. However, I do have a few bits -n- pieces sitting about. Mostly Ludwig Standard stuff and early Atlas...
As far as bass drum kicks go; I have an original 'Ghost' pedal, pre - Ludwig. I'm the original and the third owner as it came back to me when I found my original Avocado Standard kit. I think I bought it in '71.
I have a plethora of Speed King's... really, anyone my age should have at least one... or a dozen. When I bought my Camco kit it had managed to hang onto the original Camco (not Tama) pedal, and high hat as well. I have acquired around half a dozen Ludwig Standard bass pedals. For a while a couple years ago it seemed I was a Ludwig Standard equipment magnet. I even found a nice high hat, bass pedal and snare stand at a tiny little Methodist Thrift Shop.
Various and sundry other brands have passed through my hands... Slingy, Rogers... I don't think I've ever owned or played a Gretsch pedal. A few European and Asian models. I had an ASBA pedal that looked quite nice. I was never able to try it out though as the poor thing was pretty played out. The guy I got it from seemed like he could of won the 'Moron Of The Universe' award for decades with no real challengers. He said it had squeaked, so he'd shot it full of graphite and began grinding down all the pivot points in the poor thing. It cleaned up okay, but was unusable. Tama, Pearl... Oh yeah, an original DW 5000 pedal, the all aluminum one with no base plate. Actually, that's a very nice pedal. Very similar to the original Camco.
I use a couple of older (but not vintage) styles. Pearl 900 series pedals and DW 7000's. Pretty mundane stuff, yeah, but then I've never been a flashy bass drum player.

My first pedal was a Gretsch Floating Action which I sold with a round badge Gretsch kit in the 70s (huge mistake to sell the drums!)
I then used the Speed King for years along with the ASBA which I loved. In the 90s I switched to the DW5000 and have been using it since then but it is showing signs of age. I recently switched to the Camco double which has a similar feel.
I'm always interested in classic or unusual pedal so let me know if you have something.
3 Speed Kings 1 is wfl. 1 Ghost pre ludwig.
