Hi all,

I found this drum in my attic and Im curious if anyone knows anything about it?! There is a sticker that says Beare and Son and its dated April 23, 1923. Im not able to find much about drums made by this company, just string instruments.

Thanks in advance! :)

Welcome to the forum!

Very nice drum. Regret I can't help with any information.

How big is it and what are your plans?

Thanks!

Creighton

Its pretty big, about 2.5-3 feet in diameter and id say 1 foot deep. There is some damage on the opposite side (a rip) but other then that its a beautiful drum. I dont have a use for it but id hate to see it put back up in the attic. Any help would be greatly appreciated! :)

Sometimes on the early 1900's drums you will see labels or badges that were actually from the distributor/retailer of the drum as opposed to the maker of the drum. That's just a possibility.

Found this catalogue on Line.. Should give you a line of research on this drum.. (From what I can find Beare were violin makers.. but "Distributors Only", of the other instruments in this catalogue)

Your drum would be the "Regulation" model.. the exact dimensions will determine the Cat #.

Cheers

Thank You, this is the label thats inside the drum and then there is a date of April 23, 1923. Therez not much I can find on the web. That catalogue has very similar ones in it, but it looks like the Military Model to me. The rope meets at the bottom and it has the braided rope as well. Not sure if I know how to measure a drum, but the measurements are 26 inches in diameter and 14 inches deep.

Note that the military model is decorated with studs, is a painted red white & blue shell and also had zig zag decoration to the hoops..

Cheers
