The going out of business sale presents my favorite snare...
An amazing 14 x 5 Sonor S Classix Birch snare drum. It is wrapped in a stunning red pearl... Whatever the official name, "Red Pearl" doesn't do it justice. It's a beautiful wrap. The pics in front of the white garage door best represents the color. And I'm not sure, but I think these high-line birch snares are not easy to come by (for less than 500 bucks).
The sound? This is the first time I've had a wood snare where I can actually tell it's wood! Sensitive, with a nice pop, and a quintessential wood sound. I've had really nice Gretsch, DW, vintage Ludwig Gretsch and Slingland, and a custom stave shell with Ebony wood hoops. How did I overlook Sonor??
When I was a callow youth, I was 'on the road' with a cover band. Six nights a week, then on to the next gig. My set then was a Sonor Rosewood. So how did I forget?
This an outstanding, beautiful snare -- top shelf for live or recording.
I bought this from Steve Maxwell a while back and forked out over $400. Maybe it doesn't match the kit(s) you have. Okay. Odds are you already have, well, more than one snare and not all match. Right?? ;>)
