Beer tap throw off? Last viewed: 3 hours ago

Loading...

Until a few days ago, I had never heard of this type of throw off (evidently found on some Camco snare drums).

I did a little Googling and noted that Dunnett mentioned 'beefing' up this style throw for his version of Way drums.

Can some of the Camco brain-trust offer me some enlightenment about this piece of hardware:

- relative to the traditional Way-style and the Camco 'twisted popsicle stick' when were these made/sold?

- were they offered on Way drums?

- were they (or similar designs on any other brand drums?

Just curious....

Jeff

Hey, Jeff!

I've got a WFL 13x3 Buddy Rich "Be-Bop" with the Beer Tap Throw. I've attached a few pics.

OS: thanks for that. So clearly that style is not exclusively a Way product.

To others with vintage versions of the beer tap throw of--

Does it work well (functionally)?

Does it seem to hold up?

Are there negatives to the design that you have noticed?

Jeff

Why r u apologizing? I was poking fun at the blatant commercial included in the otherwise thorough answers provided above.

Jeff,

The George Way economy strainer was a lower end strainer that was released shortly before George lost his company to John Rochon of Camco. It was made simple to keep the costs down. I highly doubt at the time that George knew that he had just designed the best strainer that George Way and Camco drums would have throughout their entire history. The Aristocrat strainer that George designed was a beauty but unless it was handled with care, parts broke. George himself redesigned his Aristocrat 3 times with the last one being his best and most sturdy but still has it's share of problems. When Camco took over they completely redesigned the Aristocrat strainer and came up with their own share of problems as well but it was never addressed and stayed the same from 1962-1978 and two moves as well.

I've never heard the Economy strainer referred to as a beer tap strainer. I've only heard that used for WFL as pictured. However I can see it being referred as one. The Economy strainer came out in late 1960/early 1961 and lasted until late 1973. When Beckman took over Camco all lower end models and parts were dropped. So gone were the Tuxedo lugs and the strainer that was commonly used w/ the Tuxedo lug.....the economy!

Personally I've never had a problem with any of the things mentioned by Ronn concerning the Economy strainer and wished he had made an exact copy but his is still a nice version with some nice new features.
