best way to remove this badge? Last viewed: 4 hours ago

I've removed some Gretsch badges by carefully pushing the grommet through but the grommets weren't rolled over.

What is the best way to remove this grommet? The drum is a 1966 Slingerland parade snare. If it is going to be expensive and/or hard to find a similar grommet to replace this one I may choose not to refinish the drum.

thoughts please.....

Gary

I just file off the back lip with a round file. The grommet pops right out and it is easily glued back in position later.

That, or C-4! Laughing H

Too many great drums to list here!

Yes - I thought of filing or grinding it off but I was hoping there was an easier solution. Grinding four or five slots and bending the grommet rim between the slots is what I will try.

Well dang! I should check here more often. I remember looking at this very page (link below) at least once. I will put away the Industrial Grinder haha. I actually have a Dremel knock-off tool that I bought at Costco I think....with a cutting tool ....it will be perfect. And, my replacement Grommet will be here in a week or so via USPS.

Thanks,

Gary

or you could soak the shell in water until it is pliable enough to push the grommet out with your finger...

DOH

Never play it the same way once.

I tried that with my Gladstone snare shell - it didn't turn out so well.

I used my rotory tool and the operation went smooth.
