Wich would make it a Delux but the lugs thing is interesting !! They went for less than $50 brand new so don`t expect to pay alot for it !!

DeLuxe is the L&L finish name which is copper plating with gold type lacquer.

After about two years of learnning vintage Ludwigs, I didn`t notice until just now that the L is capitalized in DeLuxe. Makes sence now !!

It`s a drum,.....Hit It !!

That's how L&L spelled it in their catalogs...

In my opinion the chrome hardware is after market...1. Chrome was not around in the early-mid 1920s...2. The strainer is definitely later, mostly because of the thumbscrew section and mainly the gut piece as the area with the holes would have been parallel to the drum (floor) on the strainer that is supposed to be on that drum...3. The shell looks good though...can't tell if there are any extra holes etc...4. The hardware can be restored to the original Artgold but the strainer needs to be replaced, all this if the drum is going to be brought back to original...if it's going to be played then just play it and worry about the restoration at another time...FYI: I can make that drum look original, I do that type of restoration...if interested you can reach me at: [email protected] or 650-595-2022 PST.Mike Curotto

Thanks Mike, I'm going try and contact the owner tomorrow and see what he's thinking price wise. If I can get it I would definitely be interested in having it restored.

Thanks again, Cam

it looks like there is one extra hole above the strainer. As mike correcly stated, it was added later. The strainer on this drum would have been standard on a ludwig piccolo from the 60s. The 'tabs' are bent inward toward the center of the drum. The tabs on an original earlier strainer the would have been bent out. nice drum.

Your right, now I see what you and Mike are talking about. That's a P-84, different hole spacing and gut frame angle than the original.

Thanks, Cam
