blaemire snare Last viewed: 2 minutes ago
There are high and low spots all over the batter side edges, the reso looks cool and, it was definitely hand drilled. Way too out to be machine. Were these hand made ?

Use a carpenters square and line it up to the screws, you`ll see. From the reso side.

That i don't know. It's solid though. I think it was cast, done on a cylinder. Maybe this one was on the end. It's got some bottom end for for a 5inch snare. And those weird bind spots aren't high spots. You barely feel them on top. You feel them on the side.
You have to get Jinx to chime in on this. It 'looks like' manufacturing stress marks, not breaks. My Blaemires are stored away so checking the bearing edges is difficult at the moment. I'm sure the second Jinx sees the photos he'll be able to make a call on it one way or the other. I looked close at the photo, they do not look like breaks/cracks.
Wish I had the spare cash, I'd buy it for myself.

Very cool drum- way before everybody and their brother built custom drums, Valley Drum Shop was making some great snares. I have a 7x14 maple with long Yamaha lugs and a Pearl Gladstone throw.[/QUOTE]
You mean like this one?
This one is mine. My second one. The first I sold years ago, mistake, but I found another one.
I believe these long lugs are Slingerland.
Thanks to Mr. Jerry Jenkins
Just heard about this thread.
Those are vertical stress cracks from flexing shell without the hoops on. I had a shell like this early on in my experience with Blaemire shells and was actually able to ask Allen what would cause these vertical cracks at the edge. He told me it was the extreme flexing of the shell.
Not sure why someone would flex a shell in such an extreme way.
This is not a manufacturing flaw. These shells are not cast but instead they are spun/wound on a mandrel.
That said....these cracks will not cause any problems this shell. They will not crack any further than they are now (unless flexed again)
These shells are strong and very hard to screw up.
I would just straighten those edges and re-cut the beds if needed. Then just do a simple round over.
I hope this helps....
This drum has a new home........mine. Turns out EminentDestiny lives very close to me. I saw him last night and we did the deal. I will be changing the lugs to Rogers, leaving the snare bed as is, ditching the Dyna hoops for COB or die-cast (still deciding) and adding a PureSound.
A very nice drum to add to my collection.
The holes for the lugs are pretty ugly, but they get covered up by the lugs, so it's not a big deal. The butt plate is a bit crooked, screws with my OCD a bit, but you just don't see these drums much anymore.
Thanks to Jason (EminentDestiny) for the drum. I'm sure he and I will be seeing each other again in the future.

And thank you sir for the purchase! It was bitter sweet, but it allowed me to finally get a red vistalite floor tom. Already ordered it! And those just don't come up much either. It was fun hanging out!
