Blankets/towels left in drums? Last viewed: 58 minutes ago

I noticed more than a couple posters stating that it's a no no to leave pillows etc. inside the shells during storage. What's the reasoning behind this?

Believe it or else!

i'm not sure of others reasoning but mine would be incase of moisture and mice love making homes in pillows and such.

Pillows and blankets have a tendency to absorb moisture from the air. You end up with a damp towel or pillow resting on the inside of the shell for months or years at a time.

Yes pillows and towels can get all kinds of nasty. Also, think about which pillows and towels usually go into a bass drum. The ones that have been on the bed for 8 years and have been retired. Pillows can get pretty gross and then all that grime can seep it's way into the interior finish of the drum.

However, I'm still fascinated by the Ludwig Clubdate BD that Rockiezz bought that was stuffed with newspaper from 1968. The paper was as yellow as you'd expect from 45 year old newspaper but the white interior paint looked as if it was applied yesterday. Coincidence?

Personally, I prefer nothing in my BD. Powerstroke and tuning does it for me. Ok, and a felt on the reso.

I don't know if I agree with this.

On some drums, a "small" towel, just tossed "loosely inside" is very useful for soaking up spurious tones, especially if there is no port in the front head or when close micing.

BTW: I have seen kick drums with what looked like a mattress stuffed inside em. LMAO!!!!!

Because it's a drum not a laundry basket!!!!

P.S. I bought a set of Kents with a totally dead bass drum, no hole in the front head. When I took off the head there was an entire Batman sleeping bag inside. I washed it and my dog slept on it for 3 years.

Don't. Because this can happen.

Pain to mend.

Ouch! That's nasty. Looks more like it was sitting in an inch of water for a couple years!
