Has anyone seen a wooden shell Dynasonic, or even a metal shell model, with a second vent hole opposite the oval badge and its vent hole? I don't believe I have seen before. Check out this lone vent hole to the left side of the drum.

Wonder if that was an "Oops" moment on the assembly line, or a later mod. Would be great to see the inside of the shell and a close-up of the grommet.
I'm sure it's unrelated, but weren't the swivo mounts for the cocktail setups mounted just to the right of the butt end, right where this extra grommet hole is?

Grommets identical? Could have been specially ordered that way. could have been someones fix for some other idiots microphone cord. Factory accident? Doubtful, since everything was jig drilled. Possible but it would have to be put back into the jig upside down. At least that makes sense. it is possible, for whatever obscene reason it happened.

The auction has been ended and reissued without mentioning the questions. It also has a buy-it-now price of $1995. The seller no longer lists it as having "original" wrap. The wrap looks like one that was available much later than the Cleveland period. Attached are pictures of both the drum for sale and a 6-1/2 x 14 from the same era. The latter has a much more open pattern. I recall having a piece of wrap I got from Dave Drew back in the 90's that was like what you see on the drum that is for sale. It did not match any of the older blue onyx drum I had at that time. Also attached is a bass drum from the flat grey Dayton era.
Something tells me the drum has been modified overall. Even so, at the right price it will be the right drum. I think there is little question that it is a real Dynasonic. If the wrap looks good to the buyer, then it is good. If not, they can change the wrap if close inspection seems to reveal it has been changed once already. The extra vent might give it a bit more room to breath too.
This drum sold at a very nice price all around. Someone will be very happy. Interesting to note that is is close to twice the price of the new ones, so the older ones are still holding good value. No lack of interest either with 55 bids!
When re-listed, the seller did make note of the extra air vent. I mentioned this to him in the original posting. Never got a response back. I did find all the extra "text" about the drum a bit off-putting. IMHO, anyone interested in the drum knows about its history. That's just me!
Anyway, like Ploughman said, the second airvent/grommet could have been factory ordered. Looking from the inside, that grommet appears to be installed correctly for factory. Still, that second airvent most likely resulted in the lower final price. But I'm sure the new owner is going to be very happy with this drum!
