Blue Oyster Ludwig Classic Last viewed: 41 minutes ago

I found a listing for the following drums. Any info on how much they would be worth? The tom arm looks like a newer mount. Any idea on what year these could be from?

Here is what the listing says:

Blue Oyster Ludwig Classic, super sensitive snare. Evans heads. In flawless condition.

Judging only by the pictures, it's hard to tell about the year, shells, etc. I can tell that the finish is not Blue Oyster. It's the modern Black Oyster, so this is most likely a re-wrap. The Super Sensitive snare drum is the pre-68' version... very nice! I can see what appears to be the 1/2" arc bass drum spurs. If they are original, it would date the kit to very late 70's and even early 80's. Don't exactly remember when these heavier spurs came out. The bottom line is that the kit is a re-wrap, with a nice Super Sensitive snare drum. We really need to know more about the shells...but...since they have 1/2 spurs, I'm going to wager that the shells are 6-ply, dating the drums to about 1980. How much is the seller asking?

I agree, it's a re-wrap with 6 ply shells. The snare is nice, that's where the money is.

I can't see badges either....pretty horrible quality photos...may be on purpose by the seller. They are asking $475. If they were original I was thinking about making an offer but if they are a re-wrap I probably won't mess with them

Pretty good deal if you ask me, rewrap or not..I agree that the snare is where the profit lies, but it still looks like a nice player's kit, and if the shells are super classic, then even better.. I see that the tom mount bracket and floor tom leg brackets look like the ones Ludwig used for their classic birch from the early 90's, but the bass drum spurs say super classic, as the birch classic usually used telescopic spurs..The wrap is consistent with the modern black oyster that ludwig used and still uses.. Also, the absence of T-rods on the kick is another indication that it could be a 90's era kit.

At that price, i'd grab them..

Yes, $475 was a good price, especially with that snare drum! Probably already sold to someone else who noticed that snare drum!

I bought an early 80s 6-ply drum in that wrap. That kit's wrap appears to be original to me.

Black Oyster completely disappeared by 1980. Even the 1979 catalog only shows Blue Oyster, which would have been the "bowling ball" variety. Look carefully at picture #2 and you can see what looks like a large die cast air vent on the the left rack tom... but no B/O badge. This is definitely a modern Black Oyster. Both Precision and Jammin' Sam sell this version. As to the pictures themselves, why is it so difficult for people to take clear pictures? Just sayin'!
