Blue Sparkle Club Dates Last viewed: 8 hours ago

Hi all,

I am fairly new to the forum and the vintage drum scene in general. I am the proud pappa of this 67 Blue Sparkle Club Date kit. This is my first playable vintage 60's kit. I purchased it from the forum's own "johnnyringo". Big Thanks to JR for the kit, he's a great guy to deal with.

I am really happy that i took the plunge with a nice vintage kit. The sound is everything you all say it is....(luddy guys that is..). The good news, a new kit makes me want to clean my drum room. The bad news, I want to fill it with more vintage drums!!

I must say, The level of expertise on this forum is impressive. I love learning from all you guys! I look forward to buying/selling/chatting with you all.

Cheers!

Grandfunk

When I first talked with Mr. Grandfunk he told me he was in Greenbay and was a Packer fan, seeing that the Packers had just spanked my team, the Texans, I thought twice about selling him the kit....JUST KIDDING! He's a great guy and he now has a cool little kit. Have a great time with those GF.D' Drummer

Speaking of club dates I mite b buying some how do they play?

April 2nd 1969 scarfed pink champagne holly wood and 65/66 downbeat snare, and , supra same year very minty kit old pies
66/67 downbeat with canister
Super 400 small round knob
1967 super classic obp

once the brass ceases to glitter, and the drum looses its luster, and the stage remains dark, all you have left is the timbre of family.

I love my Clubbies, jaghog. Very warm, rich tone. To give you an idea of the sound: I tune mine low, and they sound quite a bit like Michael Shrieve's drums in Santana's set in the Woodstock film. (I was surprised, given that Shrieve played a Super Classic--you'd think the size difference would result in a big difference in sound.)

The shells are the same as other Ludwigs from the period; the only difference is the hardware. If you've played a Downbeat kit, you'll find they sound pretty much the same. As a bonus, the center-mounted lugs make the kit much lighter--so they're perfect for gigging!

Kits:
1950s Gretsch Name Band in Midnight Blue Pearl (13/16/22/14sn)
1965/66 Ludwig Club Dates rewrapped in Black Diamond Pearl (12/15/20)
