Blue Sparkle Kent Kit Worth? Last viewed: 3 hours ago

Hi Folks.

I looked at these drums about a year and a half ago. The young fellow (young to me anyway) had inherited them from an uncle or something. He was interested in restoring and using them, so I gave him some info and that was that. Now he wants to sell 'em. I seem to remember them being in pretty fair condition. Cymbals were just 'eh... I haven't seen them yet, but I'm pretty sure they are American, and jazz sizes. Bass, rack floor and snare. Ballpark figures are all that's expected. Yes, I know that isn't much to go on, but I'm lazy and wanted to have some sort of idea of the value.

Thanks in advance!

First, EXCELLENT that you have a floor and a snare.

Second, check them over very carefully. Some of those shells were a bit sloppy and some even bypassed the bearing edge department. Look closely.

Third, if they pass the mustard, keep it under 500. Nice kits, though. I would love to have one. I passed a very special one off to a member here. It was being sold by a very good friend up in Buffalo. That was an extremely sweet one.

Keep us in the loop!

Hi Buddy!

Thanks for the needed info! I'm going to call the kid in a moment and set up a preview. He's a nice guy, with a new family and new (older) home from what I remember. I don't think he's hurting for bucks, but I really don't want to put the screws to him either. Anyway, thanks and I'll report back when I have more concrete information. I told him If I don't take them we would sell the kit here. I need another kit like I need a hole in my head! I do have a big head they say, so plenty of room for holes...

Kents, once they,ve been tuned up and tweaked sound as good as any kit imo.I do think that 500 or under is a little high.I would think in the 2-300 range since i paid 170 for my 4 pc orange sprkl kit...Like the MIJ gear,Kents have flown under the radar since they were built.

Hit like you mean it!!

200-300 is a good price. What I said was "keep it under 500". That means that 500 is too much. I should have been a bit clearer. Sorry 'bout that one. Currently, Kent's are fetching 'around' 275-450 for a kit complete with bass, tom, floor, snare, and cymbal holder. The variables include (but not limited to) fit and finish, lugs, wrap, sizes, and actual shell layup and edges. If you stumble upon a minty fresh complete Kent in a desirous finish (gold sparkle, anyone?), it can drive into the neighborhood of 400 to 450. They are seriously good sounding kits - once tweaked. It's funny ... I played around these kits and talked about them while I lived and recorded up in Buffalo, but never took the plunge. Heck, there was a Kent kit in my guitarists basement. I never gave those drums the time of day. Interesting. What the heck do we really know???

First, sincere thanks for the input. Kent's are not up there on stuff that I know about... The first time the fellow and I can get together is early next week. I'll send a further report then. Thanks again!

BigDaddy is always a good person to talk Kent drums. Nothing against anyone weighing in currently, but I think he has quite a collection of Kent.

I have a 14x5-ish snare drum. Cleaning it still, but when I had it together, it had a very cool wood-y tone. Very vintage, very cool!

Good Luck!
