Blue sparkle trans badge value Last viewed: 3 hours ago

+1 with EMD. My transition badge kit has the rail mount factory drilled in that same position. The 4 hole rail mount straddles the lug, except on the Club Date, which is dead center on the bass drum. For a transition badge bass drum, this is the correct position. That said, I've never seen two on the same drum for that era. Have a look at the inside of the shell and see if there is any obvious splintering or apparent funny business underneath the second rail mount.

The rails don't line up exactly. The one on the right is a little closer to the center of the drum, so I'de guess one was added later. There must have been an extra tom at one point; a common addition in the 60's/70's. (Or maybe one of the owners was left-handed?). This mod doesn't detract much from the look of the set, and is much better than having five big holes on the top of the bass for a dual tom mount.

You're splitting hairs! It's a transition badge kit in beautiful condition being sold at well under market value.

I've owned/played two of these kits. They are some of the warmest, best sounding drums you'll ever play. Fat-city tone on them. Old-school cool. Wish I had the extra coin, while you guys are discussing rail placement, I'd have them in my basement all tuned up and ready to play.

Killer kit, the price is right, don't sweat the rails! I wouldn't care if it had four of em. ;) I know what those tubs sound like!

Too many great drums to list here!

John; You've hit the nail on the head. It's collectors-itus, and frankly I have a bit of that. I really don't like taking pristine vintage kits out to gigs... yeah, I know, stupid... but still. So, I've come to the conclusion that I really don't need 'prime' kits. I need kits that have some character, some history... some mojo. I've started grabbing kits that haven't exactly been hacked up, but they've been updated: Fold down legs -vs- spurs (YES!) Maybe a hole or two where there shouldn't be, but can be fixed or ignored.

Kits that have been played, used on stage and off, instead of closet queens.

Frankly, to a player; Kit's that have been improved.

Yep! That's what I'm doing...
