this is a collector's item...# 603 of only 1000 printed (and signed by the authors)..I believe this sold in the late 1980s.. anyone that knows of Shelly is aware that he first made his fame with the Stan Kenton Orch. in the late 1940s...then stayed on the West Coast and help start the Jazz Movement there. eventually, getting into recording (the book lists EVERY record that he is on including the musicians names) he also got into movies and TV work...not only playing the music, but in 4 films, he played the part of well-known drummer..Dave Tough also in "The Man With The Golden Arm", he is shown playing the drummer that Frank Sinatra is supposed to replace...he also wrote the music for some movies and TV (including children's cartoons) he was involved with over 40 TV shows and well over 3oo movies!...this is a wonderful book of his life story, and many B&W pictures $ 150.00 FIRM!
