Bot some keystones w rattle can red over rattle can black over WMP Last viewed: 11 minutes ago

Picked these toms today. Pre serial number 9x13 and 16x16. Someone thought that black looked better than WMP, then decided to go with red. In the space where paint was removed, the wrap appears to be in good shape. It was obviously not sanded before the custom paint job. Any thoughts on how to remove the paint? Roughly what year are they?

Thanks

jim

why oh why would someone do that? People's motivations are sometimes hard to understand. I'm sure i've seen threads here about "gentle" paint removers.

Beauties! I like the red/black/wmp look haha.

Seriously though - nice drums. Look at the badge and get the S/N and post it - I can (and others here) tell you what year your drums are.

As far as removing the paint other members may be able to tell you how to remove it without damaging the WMP plastic wrap. You can go online maybe and ask Industrial Plastics if they have suggestions.

Good luck and keep us posted on the progress - nice score!

There are no serial numbers. How old does that make them?

cool! the paint probably kept the wrap preserved from fade if done early enough.

purdie shuffle has done some paint stripping. i think he liked the graffiti remover from lowes.

those are early 60's.

We're these in South Lyon? If so, did you grab the whole lot in the ad?

From auto.pilot

Pre serial number.....60-63.Try Mostenbockers lift off or graffiti remover. The stuff works great and dosen't damage the wrap.Be sure to plug all the mounting holes and the grommet hole to prevent getting the stuff on the interior of the drums.

With some elbow grease that will be a great kit.

Yes, these were in South Lyon, but I didn't get everything listed in the ad. Someone beat me to it and bought only some of the items. I got these two drums plus a 14X22 Duco bass drum. Nice guy.
