Bought a Supraphonic for my DownBeat set! Last viewed: 2 hours ago

You could also go with the Bonham Formula:

- Remo Emperor on the batter side

- Remo Ambassador on the snare

- 42-wide snare wires

For tuning, check out Bonzoleum's YouTube video. Of course Bonham's drum was taller, so it will have a slightly different sound.

The Supra is so versatile. I just swapped out the heads and wires on my son's and it's like a different drum. He hasn't warmed up to it yet. He played it for a couple days and then went back to his Gretsch 4165. I think I know the direction his sound tastes are headed. :)

If you're interested in replacing the strainer, just post something in the wanted section. VDF members take care of each other, so you might be surprised at the cost.

Wise choice! That is one of the best snare drums in existence. I am with a lot of the other guys of a Ambassador on the batter. I am sure you won't go wrong with the evans hazy, remo ambassador reso, . I have never seen a throw off missing that part of the throw. Looks like someone may have filled it of or something? Also, I have had super great results scrubbing old heads in the bathtub with Barkeepers Friend or Bon Ami with a stiff plastic brush.

You will not believe the results. I have a Supraphonic the same year as yours I got new with my first Ludwig set. The set perished in a club fire and the Supraphonic is the only thing I was able to salvage. The badge is smooth as the blue olive is gone, and you can see the serial numbers. The insides are still black. I recently took it completely apart and cleaned it up and the lugs still have the chrome and the shell although flaky still retained some chrome. This drum still sounds great.

I don't know the melting point of that Ludalloy, but my ZIldjians all melted.

One tough drum those Supra's.

Looks good, enjoy. The strainer arm looks bent. If so, you may be able to get it back shape on the vice.
