Tough decision....

I saw a few examples of "ex-chrome" supras, which were removed from all the chrome plating surface, then finished as raw anodized aluminum, and they look really nice, but It should be a hard work to do though.....

And once you start, there is no return point!!!Eye Ball

Good luck and post some pics!!

From Heraldo Blasco

Hi Fellas!Just for sharing, what I found (first pic.) and the same 84' s LM410 (sec. pic) after some "elbow grease" & T.L.C.,I hope you people like it....Regards!!

I'm in the middle of my first (and intense) Slingerland rehab with pitted chromes being my nemesis. Wow, your after picture looks great. HOW did you get such nice looking chromes? I have similar rim pitting on the rehab and can't get anywhere with them. My Buddy Rich TDR is a heart-breaker...:(

Hi!

Well, what it worked for me were the following steps (overcharged with a lot of patience and wrist , LoL!)...

1. First of all, after a complete (in literal sense) dissasembly, cleaned each part with a soft clean cloth with meager amount of humidity.

2. Submerge all rusty components (rims, tension rods, strainer parts, etc) in White Vinegar (Acetic acid) during all night.

3. Then cleaned and repeat process if still remains some hard rust on it.

4. Dry carefully with soft cloth

5. After that, both shell and previously "washed" rims, should be cleaned with Brasso Chrome Polishing Cream, at minimun 3 times, making each "panel" (space between two lugs or holes) of shell and rims at time, and start with a old towel for example, and finishing with a very soft cloth.

Besides, of course, meticulously, clean and lubricate each mechanism and lug component (spring, etc)

Note: Pitting and Flaking are irreversible process, so, you only can control it, no eliminate it.

I hope this helps, let me know!!

Wow Heraldo, looks fantastic. Thats the only super sensitive i have ever seen like that. And Bigjim, your only the second person I know of to have that snare in the deeper size. Mike and I were discussing these snares in another thread a few weeks ago. Wild to see a couple more pop up on here. Here's mine with one of my Acrolite's. Chicago Badge , no serial#.

Vibes,

I've seen the 6.5/14's surface on ebay once in a while. Funny about the badges though. I know Mike Layton talked about the badge placement in his previous post. Yours looks like it is set a little higher under the hoop than mine. Could be the camera angle in your shot though. I've got the Chicago badge with a serial#.

From mlayton

ive got one of these. many of them have the large Monroe style badge with Chicago on them. some even have no serial number. mine has the large keystone badge mounted on a shell that was clearly meant for a b/o badge. much of the keystone badge is under the hoop.mike

I have the exact same one. Bought it used in 1987. My first Supra!

Wow! I didn't I'd get this much response! I had trouble logging-in 'cause I've forgotten my password. It's nice to know that there are plenty of us owners of these underlooked Supraphonics.

Turned out that Emperror X aren't the best heads to be used on this snare. So I went for a diplomat and now it sounds like a real snare.

Btw is it okay to polish them using Mother's Mag? or is that a bad idea.

as long as it doesn't having an abrasive that might scratch the finish, it should be fine.
