Broke a Ludwig Heavy Clear head last night...what are the specs? Last viewed: 8 hours ago

Hello All,

Thank heaven I always bring a spare snare, ready to grab at the side of my kit.

I was playing a set with my Beatles band, at an outdoor show in front of hundreds of people. I play a late-model 6-1/2 x 14 Ludwig Bronze Supra. Picked it up used with a Ludwig Heavy Clear head. It sounded good, so I didn't switch to my normal Remo/Evans/Aquarian equivalent.

All of a sudden, my snare starts to sound like....well, Ringo's circa Let It Be with the tea towel on it(thup). I look down and see every drummer's bad dream, the head with a 6" tear in it! I'm a heavy hitter when I need to be, but I rarely break a head. And, since this one said "heavy" I thought it was a 2-ply head, but judging from the tear, it is not. Ludwig's site is no help. Does anyone know the specs of the Heavy Clear Weathermaster?

Thanks,

Dan

The Ludwig 'Heavy' is the same as the Remo Ambassador - single ply 10 mil.

The Ludwig 'Medium' is a single ply 7 mil like the Remo Diplomat.

Ludwig does make a two ply like Remo's Emperor but I don't have the specs.

All come in clear or coated.

Hope this helps.
