Buddy? Yell at the bass player? Nah... he would never do that! LOL!!!!!!!
I was at one particular BR concert where he fired his lead trombone player on the spot... in front of a packed house! My personal meeting with him was interesting too... although Buddy did take it easy on me, which was amazing given the circumstances! These are the memories that one will NEVER forget!

What did Buddy Rich say to you? Did you ask for an autograph? If so, did you were a catcher's mask? Modern Drummer had an article, written by a bass player in Buddy's band. He was only in the band for a month, but, I guess Buddy was pretty tough on him. I guess Buddy always gave 100%, so, when members of his band did not give 100%, it drove him nuts. Buddy Rich was the best and he expected the people that played with him to be the best...seems fair to me. More Buddy Rich stories and pictures!
Super B!
I have told my "How I Met Buddy" story so many times that I finally wrote it all out! LOL! If you would like to read it, just PM me and I'll send it out to ya... it is pretty funny... but also cool at the same time. I will tell you this much though: He wears briefs... not boxers! HA!!!!
I saw BR LIVE 5 times between 1973 and 1978... 'twas excellent every time! You know, my BR collection of snare drums/kits/and ALL types of media is quite extensive. I "discovered" Buddy Rich in 1966... I was but 11 years old... BUT! ... that as they say, was that. I have been a fan ever since, which has led to my personal collection. My wife and two daughters have suggested that I "might have some issues". They think my studio is a shrine to Buddy. Actually, now that I think about it... everybody else that enters my studio says the same thing!! LOL!

Buddy Rich was a great drummer, but as a human being he was a failure! There are no failures of talent only failures of character! If he had only learned how to treat other people with respect and kindness, people would have really admired him even more. There are better and even nicer people person drummers such as Carl Palmer! Yes I love Buddy Rich he is one of my heroes, but to me he still strikes me as a real ego-driven maniac. With all the resources and money he had he should have gone to see a shrink or take an anger management course! But he was full of pride. Maybe it was the way he was raised by his parents that had a negative effect on him. He was the Bobby Knight of the drum world! But we still love him regardless as I do too! Buddy you are still the best! Phil Cormier Fitchburg, Mass 01420
