Buddy Rich mini drum kit Last viewed: 5 hours ago

Hello vintage drum enthusiasts! I haven't posted here in a long long while. I just came across this video and thought of the forum, had to post it. Really cool.

From the Ludwig Book:

We got a call from Buddy's manager, who said they wanted us to make up a miniature drum set. They wanted it half-sized, which was not easy to do. We used a tom-tom for a bass drum, a small bongo shell for the snare drum. When it came to the pedal, we had to make a whole new pedal from scratch. It says ''Ludwig Buddy outfit'' on it. We only made six of those pedals. - William F. Ludwig II

Here's Buddy playing (pretending to play:rolleyes:Laughing H) with Charlie Parker and Coleman Hawkins in 1950 with the mini kit!

Looks like the "small bongo" was used for the mounted tom, the shallow snare looks ligit.

Never play it the same way once.

Apparently, the kit was made for Buddy in 1947 to play at the Shamrock Hotel with the Tommy Dorsey band. That's all it really says in the Ludwig book.

The kit is a blast, but I still need a few parts for it that I haven't been able to get my hands on. I actually bought another snare for it that I was working on just today. Updates soon!
