I'm watching this kit and very tempted! I've owned a BR kit with 5-ply shells and they were the WORST drums I've owned! I'd much prefer Slingerland's signature 3-ply with rings. The biggest issue with these 5-ply shells are two-fold. 1, more often than not, they have terrible level of the edges and 2, with the bearing edge at the outside, most heads don't fit properly. However, Evans new Level 360 just might!

Still, this is a wonderful kit that has been well cared for!

Wow, if they were the WORST drums you've owned, as you so delicately put it, why would you even be remotely tempted to dish out a couple grand to buy them?

I've owned Slingerland drums with the 3 and 5ply shells and never had any issues with them, although I do prefer the 3ply shells.

Let the man try to sell his kit and stop critiquing them.

An excellent question! When I had my first kit with 5-ply shells, I didn't have much knowledge about bearing edges. Today, like most of us, I'm very much in tune with re-contouring of the edges. If I did decide on this kit, I'd have my trusted tech, Chris Heuer, level the edges and slightly bring the apex in to properly seat heads.

Remo heads have a very difficult time seating on these Slingerland shells. However, heads from Aquarian and Evans, especially the newer Level 360 heads, just might seat properly. Still, I'd have the edges leveled!

Maybe the kit you had was a lemon, or maybe the ones I've owned were special, because, like I said, I never had any problem getting a Remo coated ambassador on any of them.

Now if you were talking about vintage Grestch kits, I'd be right with you, never was crazy about the ones I've owned.
