once the brass ceases to glitter, and the drum looses its luster, and the stage remains dark, all you have left is the timbre of family.

glad you guys dig it

there was so much in that room that I laid up in bed last night just going over all the things we saw

the room is insane ....

the one thing I was really attracted to ... besides some of the drumming stuff.... was a really nice framed piece .... in the frame is a black and white picture of Johnny Carson and Buddy .... a candid picture taken in what looks like a backstage area in maybe the early 1970s... maybe in a green room ...

Johnny looks to be showing Buddy some sort of magic trick pushing a pencil through a pack of cigarettes .

two really cool things about the framed piece

1) my friend is in the background of the shot laughing

2) the actual pack of cigarettes that is in the picture is in the frame below the picture with the pencil still through it .... and the pencil is a drumstick pencil.

I was told that Buddy gave Johnny a couple pairs of drumstick pencils that day.

lots of cool stuff

Question for you B.R. experts: Would Buddy have actually used this case personally, or would it have been handled strictly by a roadie? Knowing how particular BR was about everything, did he let anyone set up his drums, or was it something he insisted on doing himself? Just curious.

Buddy had a number of guys who would lug his drums around ... set them up and break them down over the years

I believe Stan Levey worked for Buddy early on ...., then Steve Peck, Dale Wise etc

these guys would set everything up then Buddy would usually come out in sweats and a baseball cap and position everything perfectly then leave again

... and later on, during the late 70's early 80's, he had guys in the band doing that for him.. and .. they were paid EXTRA to do so!, which truth be told, was the impetus for the guys to undertake the job. I have chatted with one of the guys that set up his drums while on the band, and he told me many times that BR was very particular about certain aspects of it... especially so the taping of the snare drum TO the rack tom, so that the snare drum wouldn't "walk" on him. I have pics of exactly that taken at a gig by the guy that taped the drums together. Having seen Buddy more than a few times, well... you never saw that from the audience side at all. You had to be directly behind the drums to notice. Interesting stuff it is!
