Bunch of Slingerland shells Last viewed: 1 hour ago

Hi everybody,

First post here, and I already have a question, if you don't mind :D.

I was looking around for a "new" kit, and I found an interesting ad for some Slingerland shells. (I do not yet have pictures, the guy will upload some later, I don't know when)

Here's what he's selling:

24 bass drum

20, 18, 16 floors

15 (2x), 14 (2x), 13, 12 toms

So that'd be 10 shells (I don't think it's all from one set, but I don't really care)... He says all shells are complete and in good condition, but they need some sanding, cleaning and re-wrapping. I'm not sure what hardware is present exactly (like BD spurs, FT legs, or perhaps tom arms), so I'll have to wait for him to up some pictures.

He wants 500 euro for it (I guess that's about 700 dollar).

I know I should wait for pictures, but I don't want to be too slow. I found a guy who was selling an awesome 6 piece mint Sonor Phonic Plus for 550 euro before, but another guy beat me to it :(... (I am aware a Phonic is very different from a Slingerland).

You guys think this is too expensive? I think it's not, but they do need re-wrapping. So I'm not sure. And I haven't done much re-wrapping, so it'll probably cost me :P.

And I don't think he'll go down in price, since he bought them for the same amount, but sells them again now because he has no time to restore them.

Anyone got any opinion on this?

(Sorry for the post being so lengthy :/)

First off Welcome to the VDF that's a funny user name you have!! the shells you need to get all the info first, what years are they from? what issues do they have? also what hardware comes with them? with the rewrap and buying the hardware you could end up with twice the selling price, do you need this many drum first off, and can you not find a vintage kit for less or equal money? I realize your not in the states!

Thank you. I am terrible at thinking up nicknames, and I've done worse. I do not mean to insult Mister T, though ;).

I am right now also prying some info from the guy selling this, so I can't say much yet. But yes, I am Dutch. I guess my terribly ungoodful English gave me away...

And of course I don't strictly NEED 10 shells, especially two possibly identical (in size) toms. But who does :P.

I think it's either going to be this bunch of shells, or (for a few hundred more) a 1978 Premier Elite (with an extra floor, two bongo's and some hardware, 2000 snare optional) which needs no restoring, which I think is a nice set and deal too.

It's just that these Slingerlands got me really interested.

Oh No I think your user name is funnyCool1, also your english is just fine, I was just making those points about the shells and the number etc just to get you to think about it, if they are of the same era that's a good thing but the hardware will cost as much as a drum kit will! I would take a look at the premier kit also, it sounds like a good one!

Oh yeah, the shells are from the 60's and 70's apparently.

The thing that makes me doubt about the Premier is that it has a 20" BD. I'm not sure if that'll be big enough to my liking, and this guy doesn't live around the corner so I can go try it out :P.

But I'm not mistaken to think the Premier Elite is not just some entry level kit, right? I'm seeing some cheap new Premier kits sometimes which kind of cloud my judgement. Though I guess they could be relatively good for their price as well, I suppose, didn't try any.

Perhaps I should change the thread title to "Bunch of Slingerland shells OR Premier Elite". Let's see if that's possible. But first... Food!

Thanks again.

I actually stumbled across that stuff before when doing research on this kit. I must say I'm not a big fan of sparkle wrap, but that's just me.

I do, by the way, have some pictures of the Premier Elite I could buy. No pics of the Slingerland shells yet :/.

Oh man I love that premier kit! if there's no Issues with this premier kit It's a no brainer, you'll end up with more money in the slingerlands after all is said and done!I love slingerlands own a lot of them, but that is one cool Premier kit, I've owned Premiers before I have a few snare drums now, this kit is a nice one, do your homework on it make your decision!

Haha, all right.

I was doubting a bit about the bass being "only" 20", but I suppose I shouldn't. I'll start trying to reel the Premier in, I think. Dropping the man a line, right... Now :P.

I do know that the Slingerland would eventually cost me more, for sure. I wish I could buy both, though.

BTW the Premier will probably cost me between 800 and 900 euro, if no one else bites. Google says that's 1124 to 1264 dollars. Just seems like a lot of money :P. But then again, it's not just a 5 piece shell set. Hope this guy responds quickly ^^

what is the bass size 14x20 or 16x20 or 18x20" I have from a 20" to a 28" bass drum. the 20" bass drum is as loud as any of the larger ones not as booming as the larger ones but still loud! if your in a band this 20' will roar, But let's stop here for just a second, what size bass do you usually play or like?
