The School Festival or the 6 lug Gretsch. Lowish tuning sounds best. Higher tunings sound good but not significantly different than plastic heads. The feel and response of a nice calfskin head is in another league. Rounder bearing edges help as well

I use ET calf on the reso sides of bd & toms....warms up the plasticky feel..of well..plastic..

Thanks for the replies. I think I'll try it on either the Ludwig School Festival or the 6 lug Gretsch. If those don't work, then I'll just throw it on the Gretsch field snare.
