I have a 10" Camco tom and I've seen one other, both LA. My tom has vertical grain on the interior ply. LA was famous for that on their 12" toms but because of the huge rock sizes by the time of the LA era one rarely sees those 12" toms.

Could you post a couple of pictures of your L.A. era 10" Tom? I've done extensive research on the L.A. drums and unless one was made especially for Keltner or Porcaro...Keller making an undersized 10" shell wouldn't have been a problem but having hoops made for it would have been. Contrary to what some have stated on this forum, L.A. era toms were shipped with Pearl style hoops, but they were, like the shells undersized by 1/8" to 3/16" depending on the size of the tom. They never used Pearl hoops... I simply don't believe they exist...A good replica, maybe...
The tom is buried and I can't get to it at the moment but I do have some older pics I took of it along with the LA kit I once owned. The tom started out as a concert tom and somewhere along the line it got drilled for bottom lugs but due to the shallow shell the lugs had to be offset. This little tom was in rough shape when I got it many years ago. The badge was missing and this Chanute badge was all I had but it's definitely LA era. It's been re-wrapped as well.

I haven't seen that photo of Jim Gordon before. Wow. One of the sadest stories.
The offset lugs really change the apperance on the 10".
