Talk about being on an island by yourself. I've tried scouring the interwebz for information on Camco's No. 99 Super / Parallel strainer contraption but there's not much out there.
Calling (DolFan54) Steve! I assume you are familiar with how this think is constructed. My drum is an early Oaklawn Aristocrat model, but the parallel strainer mechanisms are Tuxedos (I think I've got that right). I've been sitting on this drum for 3 months debating how far I wanted to go with cleaning her up because i had a feeling reassembly was going to be a science project. I pretty much wasted an entire day yesterday trying to put this thing back together and it ain't happening.
I put it back together the way it was, but maybe that's the problem? Missing parts, perhaps? Once back together I am getting way too much resistance when moving to the snares up position. I've broken this think down and reassembled it close to 20 times now and I get varying degrees of resistance, and sometimes it just won't move. I figured I may have been tightening things too much. Another issue may be with how far I am screwing the the throw off and strainer rods into the center receiver that floats in the middle of the drum shell.
But I think I'm starting to think the issue may be with the Tuxedo mechanisms internally. These were very heavily gooped-up with grease when I took them apart. One of them had two non-matching springs place above the T-shaped "lifter" and the other one only had one spring. I am wondering if these are supposed to have springs inside them (I assume they do) and if the springs are the problem? Are they the wrong type of spring? Are they in the wrong place? Something I'm really curious about is what are the two holes on the bottom of the left and right "T" section for? Is there something that is supposed to be in those holes?
Perhaps the reason these things had so much grease in them is because of the resistance engaging the lever. Are these supposed to be greased up?
This is difficult to explain and perhaps too difficult to work through on a message board post. I'd be up for a phone conversation if someone with knowledge of these units would be so generous. I'm honestly ready to give up. I knew this was going to be a pain.
I've got some before and after pics below. Thanks.
