I finally got my newly purchased Oaklawn kit home today, and let me tell you, they put a smile on my face that just won't go away. I'm head over heels in love with this kit.

This thread puzzles me somewhat, because I can't imagine a kit being better suited for jazz, and its sound is not a million miles away from Gretsch to my ears (with Spartacus being a self confessed Gretsch guy one would think he'd have some love for these too?).

Oh well, tastes differ and maybe Oaklawns too!? :)

I think I just have a bit of buyers remorse. I bought the kit when I was doing better financially and I didn't really need another kit. However, I may have it sold, a local drummer and good friend has shown great interest. If he can get the ok from his better half, I'm going to sell him the kit in two payments.

From Dan Boucher

I would tend toward orangemi a bit on Camcos. I couldn't hear anything different between the 3-piece set and what I was able to derive from my Rogers sets, so I sold the Camcos. I probably should have kept the snare.

I've often wondered what a Rogers set would sound like with the classic Camco bearing edge profile. Additionally, to my ears a wood Powertone snare runs a very close second to the Camco!

Never play it the same way once.

I find this thread refreshing. No matter how much "hype" we buy into, in the end it's about getting the sound we're looking for. I won't have an "real" opinion about Camco until I have have the chance to play several well-maintained Camco kits from different periods (pedals are great though!). I can see the OP's point though, if this kit is not useful in his arsenal. If he already plays Gretsch and MIJ in gigging situations, then I'm sure he already knows several techniques to coax the best sound he can from drums & that this kit is just not a match for him or the music he plays. It happens.
