Can A Brother Get A Hand IDing This Snare Drum?!? Last viewed: 6 hours ago

Greetings fellow Drum Forum'ers,

Me and my buddy pulled this snare drum out of his dads attic and i'm trying to figure out what the hell it is. This pics of the snare are a little deceptive because i don't believe that the hardware is original to the drum. Hers the general stats before i get into some points. Its a 10 lug marching snare, i believe its a 6 ply (i could be wrong), its 12" D x 15" W, and has a natural finish (could have previously had a shell wrap.)

From the outside it looks like a Premier Drum because of the bow-tie style hardware, but i believe that this hardware was added at a later date and that other hardware was removed. The reason being is that when you look at the shell from the inside you can see extra holes where the drum had different hardware, im guessing a single rod tension system. In the upper right corner of the pic you can see the holes where the damper used to be attached.

Im guessing the drum is a 6ply based on what i see in this image.

In this image you can see the extra hardware holes that i was talking about.

The drum has no brands or serial #s on it, so other then what you see in the pics, im having a hellva time IDing this drum, so any help that the drum forum community can offer wold be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!!!

You can find additional images of the drum on my website, HERE.

Thanks.

Look like vintage Premier lugs to me. May be an old English marcher. Doesn't look like it was stripped. Could be a nice mahogany shell. (hard to tell just from photos)

Fix her up and play it!

Those are in deed Premier lugs currently on the drum, but I suspect that they are not original to the drum, considering the center hole between the current mounting hardware.

Thanks Rocketman,

You phrased it much better then i did, as this is what i was trying to state in the caption below the 1st image. I'm pretty much suspecting the same thing you said. Thanks for the help with ID'ing this drum for me. Cheers.

J- here's a photo I tracked down of a 1958 Premier marcher. Compare the holes on your shell to the tone control, strainer, butt plate, any details that can be compared and see how well it matches the factory set-up in the photo. The lugs are Premiers for sure though.

Are those really Premier lugs or just very similar to them? I thought Premier lugs were held on with one screw in the middle. Kinda like the original holes in this drum.

Premier longer lugs like that would used 3 mounting screws..Premier did used one mounting screw on lugs that were 4" long but not on the long 9" lugs...The way to know for sure in remove one of the lugs and see if the lug has a hole for a screw if not that the drum may have been a single lug snare drum and the longer lugs were added to the drum..Mikey
