Can you hear the difference in "plugged drums?" Last viewed: 23 hours ago

Loading...

I want to take an old snare drum that has double sided lugs and plug those holes and drill it for club date lugs. Do you think it would affect the sound of the drum? I am looking to rewrap the drum also once I have my holes plugged and what not.

Just wondering if anyone has a strong opinion either way.

Thanks

Curtis

I agree. You shouldn't hear any difference unless the plugs end up loose for some reason and they rattle...

I'd be leaning hard towards not even plugging the holes, actually.

It's a lot of work for little to no return. It doesn't improve the sound, it *might* help the wrap stay smooth and not bubble up, and if you're looking at increasing the drum value, it does nothing (but then again, you're re-wrapping, so you have no concern about that anyways...).

The only thing it would really do is make you "feel better" about the kit you're playing, and you can't really put a value on that, so do what you gotta do! :D
