Bought this today and I'm having trouble figuring out what it is...
Thank you!
The silence is deafening. To me, the drum appears to be a six-lug, Ludwig Universal-ish snare from the teens or 20s, but the condition concerns me. Did I make a mistake? (I can handle the truth!)
Was that the drum that was just recently on the goodwill auction?
You have a real Ludwig brass shell drum, not fake. can you post a pic of the strainer a direct shot of it. ? check this out. http://www.vintagedrumguide.com/images/ludwig_snaredrums/1924-ludwig-snare-drums-7.jpg
Beautiful drum. I've got a 6 lug 4x14 that looks like yours with same features and strainer. I'm certainly no expert on these things, but have mine noted as a late teens, possibly as early as 1916. This should be a heavy shell brass model and not a Universal type shell. I would expect those hoops to be steel possibly along with the clips as well. Looks like this one was tucked away or either replated. Stunning!

Yes, it is the goodwill drum. I have not received it yet. I will post more photos when it arrives.
I don't believe I got a bargain, but thought it would be a nice piece to have around...
Thanks for your reassuring comments :)
It is a beautiful drum. Congratulations.
