Cheap Ludwig Re-wrap Player’s Set Last viewed: 7 hours ago

So a few months ago there was an ad in my local craigslist for a Ludwig marching snare and bass drum. This caught my attention quickly as they were $80 for both. The snare was a 12x15 70s b/o badge 6 ply snare. The bass drum did not have a badge but I believe it is Ludwig due to the fact that it has Ludwig high tension lugs and no extra holes. Anyways, I was intrigued by the size of the bass drum 14x24 and have always wanted a 24” kick for a drum set. So I thought this would be a great first-time CHEAP re-wrap project for myself as both shells were in fairly decent shape. Pictured below is the final result.

I converted the snare into a floor tom using new Ludwig Elite brackets and some extra legs I had lying around. I added new Ludwig arc spurs to make the kick. The 8x12 mounted tom is a Ludwig Accent CS; had mini-classic lugs that I replaced with new Ludwig Mach lugs so all of the drums would match.

With this being my first attempt at a re-wrap project I bought some cheap green sparkle wrap off of eBay as I wasn’t going to spend hundreds of dollars on real wrap that I was sure to screw up. There are flaws with my wrap job with the most obvious being on the bottom of the kick drum (that’s where I started ‘cause I was sure I wouldn’t get it right). From three feet away it looks presentable (I think) and is now my new player’s/gigging set. What do you think?

Looks fantastic! Great re-wrap job. Looks like a million bucks, and I'm sure it sounds that way too.

How do you find the eBay wrap is holding up?

Very nicely done! Now, is this the sparkle wrap vinyl, or is it something else?

Thanks for the props!

Here is the stuff I bought off of eBay: http://cgi.ebay.com/EZ-EMERALD-GLITTER-drum-wrap-goes-over-old-wrap-/320482279577?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item4a9e3b8099

It is vinyl-ish material. I have just finished the project about a month ago and have only gigged the set twice. So far the wrap is holding up with no issues. I always transport and store these in drum bags so that might prolong the life of the wrap. Either way $59 for wrap is all I wanted to spend for a thrown together player's set such as this.

have to say that the 14x24 kick is the best sounding bass drum, ever!

That kit looks amazing! I'm a big fan of Mach Lugs. They look great against that green sparkle. Nice Job!
