Heading there within the hour, just need some guru advice pretty quick like :D

I know to check those swivo collete's for cracks but that's about it, other than normal stuff to look out for...

Nice Kit! I'd be happier at $800. Could be wrong but $950 is all the money. If you can check the snare on the sly. COB I wouldn't say anything COS good reason to barter down.

Second look at the pics pretty sure that is a Powertone. COB killer snare.

Good luck!!

Sorry i`m late on the draw but looks like 68/69 as it doesn`t have bow-tie lugs on the bass and the swivo tom mount is Londoner missing one collet.Dan Boucher would know for sure and hope he chimes in here.Either way...you`re getting pure class.Hope you got em`?

Super nice guy, whom I think has posted here on VDF and which I forgot to talk to him about.

I passed on the kit, super nice wrap and bright Ohio era chrome. One tag was Dayton, one tag had no city so I think it was possibly a Fullerton? Lugs looked beefier than the Fullerton era lugs though, so all 3 pieces could be Ohio.

Collet on the 13'' rack looked fine and tightened down snug.

Real sturdy all around, great edges.

The snare, we both thought it is steel even though my magnet wouldn't stick, it just seemed to light to be COB and the magnet stuck to the tall hoops. Did Rogers put steel rims on COB snares?

Took the magnet over to his Supra and it barely stuck to that steel snare, I don't think a magnet is a fool proof way to check for COB and we weren't into the idea of scratching up the shell. I have a COB Pearl snare from a few years later than this snare and it's heavy as hell

Closest I've been to buying a script logo Rogers, I'll probably kick myself shortly for passing especially if the snare really is COB.

950 clams is still a lot.

If it had been gold sparkle it would be sitting in my living room :)

the only steel shelled snare would be a super-ten which would be stated on the badge. Looks like a Powertone so definitely COB (and steel hoops would be correct I'm pretty sure). The Supra was most likely COA so no sticky with the magnet either. The SuperTen is pretty heavy too as steel shell often are on the quality drums. Nice kit

The snare was so light though and I thought some Powertones were steel, ugh :D

I'm doing a major face plant now, that magnet wouldn't stick for nothing on his Powertone, probably is COB then...

There are others more qualified than me on Rogers but I'm just telling you what I've learned from the experts here in case you want to quickly run back to the seller's house and pony up some cash:)

BTW - The SuperTen came after the Powertone and would be later than this kit I think so unlikely to be a steel superten

Was for sure a Powertone, still had the paper tag inside.

Rob Cook's book does say the earlier Powertone metal snares were just metal, so this one could have been a early model, we didn't remove the heads to check the paper tag on the snare for the born on date.

I was just trying to save the kit from our local chop shop parts stripper, once I explained what has been going on in regards to our parts raper, the seller seemed pretty keen on not selling the kit to that particular party. Let me know if I'm over reaching here, who am I to try and stop every local sale of vintage drums to a parts stripping douche? I actually tried to convince him to keep the drums and hoard them for himself! :D
