It took me a while to figure out what your thread title was supposed to be until I remembered that the forum software blanks out a string that describes a shared heritage of Buddy Rich, Joey Kramer, Mickey Hart, Max Weinberg, and Charlie Watts.

Charlie Watts? I did not know that. L'shana tovah!

This raises the old debate we've had here before... do you give the seller (who is ignorant of the drum's value) his asking price, or do you pay him a fair price of what it's worth? I don't know, but it sure would be fun to see the look on his son's face when the father tells him, "Hey son, I just got $5 for that old Ludwig drum of yours."

Fantastic deal! Did the supposed necessary "repair to the bottom section" refer to the slightly bent snare wire?(It took me a while to figure out what your thread title was supposed to be until I remembered that the forum software blanks out a string that describes a shared heritage of Buddy Rich, Joey Kramer, Mickey Hart, Max Weinberg, and Charlie Watts. This is about the last forum on the www where I would expect to find the kind of message that would warrant blanking out strings like that one!)

The repair referred to a hole in the clear snare side Head The strainer is bent but I have a new one to replace or I can attempt to repair the original one.

This is a question I often struggle with but always end up as "Pay the guy what they are asking!"

Especially in this case as a Supra is not ultra rare or super high dollar I feel as though there were no ethical implications with paying the $5 asked.

Think of it this way, who goes to a yard sale and says "This blender is worth a lot more that the $1 you are asking for it. I've seen them selling online for a lot more!!" Just pay the dollar and be glad the person that is selling it did not throw it away before you found something that is "valuable" to you.

However, if you are so inclined and financially able I see no problem offering them more. I am rarely in the position of "financially able" since I am married with a three year old....

The debate continues......

It is true and is normal to feel a certain need to be fair. However we often do not know the circumstances on how these individual came in possession of the "Special Items". The Ad said " My son's drum" The guy I meet was not that old and I would assume the son to be in his teen years. Or was his Son's drum?

Now if He was desperate for money, knew the value but asked ridicules price then yes I would try to be fair.

Another thing to be cautious of is if you decide to give the seller more than they're asking they could back out of the deal altogether if they suspect they could do a little research and get much more from someone else.

A couple years ago my friend Pete showed me a Supra he paid $3 for. It is pretty rough compared to this beauty. Congrats!

I paid him substantially more when I bought it from him. It is still rough looking but sounds awesome with an Aquarian Studio X on it.
