Ad says they have been in the seller's basement since 1972....
Wishing I had the spare coin.

Wow! You don't find them that good very often!

I've been watching these for a while. My goodness. What a beauty!!!
Any thoughts on the price? Thx jim
Jim,
My thoughts are he's a little high. However, the glasses I see through are almost always geared to what I could resell it for. I do buy stuff from time to time that I hang on to for a while, but for the most part everything I own is for sale.
A couple of years back I ran across a 65 or 66 Ludwig blue sparkle set (22/16/13/Supra if I remember correctly) with all (or at least most, by far) original stands, hard fiber cases, etc. and Zildjian cymbals. This set was pretty much just as it was purchased back then! The owner knew what he had (in fact, he builds custom drums), and had a price that was pretty much fixed. Plus he had another guy coming to look at it that was driving quite a distance. I had already worked out a deal to buy a 60s Slingerland BD from him, so I didn't just drive the 2 hours to see these.
Well, his price for the Ludwigs wasn't out-of-line at all, but for ME it was just a little more than I wanted to part with at the time. Well, it was gone that afternoon... 'cause the other guy (VDF member Surface) wanted them. It seems the date stamped inside them was his birthday or something, and he'd been looking for a set like these for a long time!
So, I rambled on-and-on about this for probably no reason other than to say for ME he's priced too high... but probably not IF the buyer has been looking for something like this!
Like I said earlier, just from what I see in the pics you just don't find them like this in this condition very often!

Get a new bass drumhead on that thing already! That's $30-40 extra cost right there. Price is about $300 too high. No snare. Eh...

I agree... While I am not a flipper, I do like to play a kit or snare for a year or two then move on to some other shiney gem. That is tough to do when you pay too much. Thx
O contraire, fellas. That kit is a steal @ 1k. BDP on a CD kit is rare. & in that condition! W/ all t/ hardware .... I've seen that setup sell for 1500 on ebay, drums only.
chris
Sam Ash has the new club date drums 20/12/14 (no snare) at $829 plus tax. I understand not wanting to pay for vintage drums when you already have a lot of them, as I am the same way...but do the math dudes.
These new sets suck in comparison to the one in question. For $100 more (if I am spending the cash) Id take the CL kit every time...especially since it has clear interiors. Its worth every bit of $1000 in that condition (if you are looking for a nice vintage kit in that finish).
Again, thats not saying I would spend $1000 on that particular kit PERSONALLY, but to say it isn't worth $1000 in the condition it appears to be in is pretty ridiculous in my opinion.

Excellent price for this kit! Look at the wrap...reaps nothing but CLASS! And brilliant! If I lived close, would be traveling today to take a look...
Can always find a pioneer on eBay, and for not a huge amount, and PRESTO...a vintage Ludwig Clubdate with all the fixin's! No brainer in my opinion, as these age of kits are getting harder to find in this condition.
Bill...loved the story! Was stamped the day I was born, and I had been looking 34 years. Sold the flaking chromed supra for $240, which paid for my gas, lunch, and oh ...almost forgot, my wife went, and we had to go buy her some shoes...go figure! Thanks for passing on the kit!! He contacted me a yer later, claiming he had found the original heads (he was moving)...was so generous to actually ship them to me, at no charge!
