Coast Guard.. Electronic Drum Sticks?? Last viewed: 9 hours ago

Quick question.. a good friend who is the mother of a young man who is in the Coast Guard asked me about electronic drum sticks. Her son, a really talented young drummer is in a situation, due to his service, where he will not have access to a drum kit for a while and she wondered if electronic sticks would provide any satisfaction for his drum jag.

I have no knowledge of these sticks and most I searched seemed to be toys.

Any thoughts on electronic sticks or other ideas??

My daughter got a pair for christmas and though they are cool for photo ops they aren't much use as musical instruments as they really only have 1 dynamic. I would suggest a good old practice pad of choice or one of several digital solutions. The Roland RMP-5 rhythm coach thingy could be a small solution and you can add kick/hats pads. The sounds are kind of horrid though and there is no general midi. The Alesis Percpad retails at $99, can input a kick pad but no hhat, but has general midi. The Roland Kd-7 bass drum pad, the old style ones that sit on the floor using a curved beater shaft, are tiny and can be thrown in a back pack. I mostly use Addictive Drums for sounds and is a pleasant players environment in headphones. I'll throw on the Steely Dan kit and pretend I'm Purdie or load a Vistalite and pretend i'm.....wait for it...Karen Carpenter.

Funny Post I'm still laughing 5 minutes after reading this.

Back to the question of electronic sticks, they're toys and not designed for serious drummers...
