COB Slingerland Lamp? Last viewed: 8 hours ago

Loading...

So the family hit up an antique store today and as I was walking around I noticed a snare drum hanging from the ceiling with a bright light shining from it. As I got closer I saw an old 70's COB Krupa hanging with a light fixture inside of it. It was being advertised a simply "Snare Drum Lamp". I could see the shell was pretty dinged up but all the original parts seemed in tact and since it was 20% off the tag price I figured what the hell and threw em $40.00 and left. I was hoping the guy just fired the light fixture through the vent hole and did not rip the badge underneath and was pleasantly surprised when I found it. Gonna take a lot of work to get the dings and dents out but should be a good addition to the collection when I am finished. Fun Sunday find!

How hot would that get? Seems like it would heat the shell if left on too long.

It's a very nice find and a great save

Not sure about the heat on the shell but it is gonna need some attention with the old rubber mallet regardless. Hopefully I can smooth her out! The lamp attachment came out with out a problem and there are no extra holes. So other than the banged up shell things look o.k.

Got it cleaned up and smoothed out as best I could. Still a bit scratched up and wavy from it's previous adventures but I really am surprised how good it still sounds!

I usually just take those brass shells to the local brass instrument repair guy at whatever store rents brass to highschool students and he knocks the dents out in 10 minutes flat. For under $20 I have an (almost) good as new drum every time!

That said, SWEET find! Love those drums! Especially the 8 luggers on the 5 inch deep shells.
