Considering buying old Radio Kings...what do I need to look out for? Last viewed: 4 minutes ago

Been bitten by the mega-vintage(pre-60's) bug, but know little about Radio King drumsets. I own a few sets from the early 60's to 2010, but I feel like I'm entering strange waters looking at Slingerland RK's with the gigantic reinforcement rings and the different lugs and all that. They just seem to be a different animal. I'm concerned about getting hosed, or stuck with drums in need of hard-to-find parts. What do I need to look out for?

Thanks,

Dan

Cracked Beavertails for one... then use a normal inspection approach: Check shell condition; in round, extra holes, cracks or breaks etc. Check bearing edges, then hardware, wrap etc.

The one thing you do want to check carefully are the lugs. They used pot metal in those days and those lugs cracked if you looked at them wrong. The Beavertails are notorious for it.

Happy hunting...

John

Too many great drums to list here!

The way the market is nowadays, too high a price is the number one thing to watch out for.
