Converting Rogers Rack Tom to Virgin? Last viewed: 3 hours ago

I have to agree with Ploughman concerning his view of vintage Rogers drums.I also have to say,the virgin thing is WAY out of control, and more drum fashion than functional. As far as value is concerned,if it was made that way,and left the factory that way, then a virgin drum will be more valuable.Originality...is what makes the difference.

As far as your drum,in reality, once the holes are drilled, its done. You can't undrill a hole.Patching a hole, does NOT make it virgin. The only thing that can make that drum a virgin tom,is a time machine. You would have to go back in time and custom order it that way.

Leave the drum alone. There are fewer and fewer vintage drums in original condition, and THAT'S where the most value is.You can't upgrade vintage drums,no matter what you do.If you must sell it,sell it to someone who will appreciate an original piece, and not some Frankenstein "upgrade"

Lots of great info here. A beautiful tom for sure. If you buddy wants it he can get a Rogers blank plate as suggested to cover where the tom mount is. And keep the tom mount wrapped up for a later day. It keeps the shell original and can easily be made functional again adding the tom mount.

The cover plate is $50 and at the JP2 creations website.

And, should you choose to go that route, $50 is way cheaper than the time, effort and money you would spend filling holes sanding, refinishing the interior, re-wrapping the exterior and basically ruining a perfectly good drum. Your buyer could even get the plate engraved with something clever like "I hate those VDF guys" and we would thank him for that.
