Cordia Artstar valuation, Famous previous owner ! Last viewed: 5 hours ago

Hi Everyone

I'm glad I've stumbled on you all ! I need a bit of help valuing my 1984 Tama artstar. It comprises of 10",12",15" toms 16"&18" floors, 22" Bass (cordia shells) and Tama 14x6" brass snare. Double braced Tama stands and Omnilock fittings. Jacques Capelle Hi hat and bass pedal. All packs up into 3 full Flight cases.

The kit is in very good condition, considering its been all over the world. I've owned it since 2000 having bought it from the original owner. (the drummer of my favourite band ever) I swore I'd never part from it. However I'm about to emigrate from the UK to the otherside of the world to NZ and I am wondering if its worth selling it or shipping it with me !

So I'm really after your thoughts on the drumkit only. The fact it has interesting history is only relevant if you are a fan of the band in question !

That's a tough one. The fact that the kit in question is shown so prominently in both videos helps back up the authenticity. Do you have any other documentation? Of course the flight cases kinda back that up, as well...

The question is whether you should ship or sell. I wonder if the Hard Rock Cafe wouldn't buy something like that from you. I can't value something like that. In America, Talk Talk only had a couple of hits; so the relevance wouldn't be so much in America. But Talk Talk were much bigger in England.

Do you play it? If not, then that should help make your decision.

Do what your gut says. I say ship it with you. Nice kit, cool history. I think you'd regret selling.

Hi,

I have a letter from Lee Harris proving the kits authenticity. Talk talk were not that sucessful in the UK either. Far bigger in europe. Lee said it was all limos and security guards out there. but they wouldn't get recognised in their hometown here (probably the best way round )

I'll have to look into shipping costs again.

Any idea how much an Artstar like this would be without the history? I'll need a rough idea for insurance reasons...

Big TT fan here........

I have some 12" 45 RPM singles I bought in Canada that are cool..............Remixes on all of them.......

Re the kit,I would look into shipping costs.......I think you will need to be sitting down when you read them!

I think that will sway you to sell them in UK.....unless you have VERY deep pockets!

Yeah- the shipping costs could sway to sell.

Judging by a quick, rough survey of ebay, your kit's probably worth around $2k (USD) w/o famous owner factored in. This is a very, very rough evaluation, and I could be very wrong. Just a WAG (Wild A** Guess).

I would keep the set.i would also look into shipping it by Fed-ex iam just guessing here i would think shipping from the UK to NZ maybe 400.00-500.00 per a road case...Mikey

Hi Drift, I'm in New Zealand so can offer some advice. There's not many collectors over here (lots of players but only a small vintage market) so if you do want to sell it you'd have a much easier time and bigger market in the UK. If you do want to keep it, shouldn't be too much trouble shipping it out in the container with your belongings. I brought back my kit with me this way when I came back from living in the UK a couple of years. Where are you going to settle?

Well It looks like I'm keeping them ! Probably wont be shipping them straight away.. But I've had them SO long now, plus there is a new covers album and book coming out next year, which the story of how I came to own the kit has got into the book . So there might be a bit of new interest in the band..
