Crash vs Swish Last viewed: 1 hour ago

Can someone tell me the difference between these two types of cymbals? tone wise? dumb question of the day. I never owned one so I'd like to know

No that is not a Dumb Question at all on here .Some people really can't tell .

Swish just has that sound like a Washing tone . But the Pang just have the sound like a Trash can sound , and the China type cymbal sounds more like a Crash cymbal . More less . type of sound to it.

all four are essentially china cymbals the pang has the most ride cymbal qualities too it. all three cymbal's here give em a listen. LOL ,Really good luck . These Swish's are hard to really find any where .Even on Craigslist . I just gave up looking for one .Now I am looking for a Zildjian A china type now .

I was at GC last night in Nashville and saw a pang I believe in the used section.

I find this thread interesting because I also have no idea what the differences are between all these similarly "bent" cymbals. I have over 20 Zildjians (Rides, Crashes, Splashes and Hats), but have never felt the need for a china, swish, or trash cymbal.I have no problem admitting my ignorance on the subject, so... why are some of these played bell-side up, while some are played inverted with the bell mounted downward?

Generally speaking, if the cymbal is mounted right side up, it is intended as more of a ride or crash/ride cymbal. Mounted upside down they are almost exclusively a crash cymbal and pretty much entirely played with the shoulder of the stick on the edge. Most players play with the cymbals upside down in current usage. Right side up is more often associated with jazz players. Of course, with all thing percussion, abnormalities abound and, if it works for you then do it.

The best thing for you to do is go to a large music store with a good cymbal selection and try the cymbals out for yourself.

once the brass ceases to glitter, and the drum looses its luster, and the stage remains dark, all you have left is the timbre of family.

I have a 16" Zildjian swish with rivets that I am going to sell for a friend of mine, if I don't keep it myself :)

I need to find a box and figure out how much it's going to cost to ship, then I'll probably put it up for sale.

I can't buy all the stuff my friend has and stay married.
