... ended up with one that is in crazy good condition.
I bought my first one and posted about it a while back. The honeymoon was short. I realized that the strainer had been bashed into the shell from a drop at some point. This made the knob hit the upper rim where you couldn't adjust it. There were a couple dents that were pretty deep where the strainer met the shell. I'm a sucker for trying to fix up things, so I intended to keep it. After all, the date code was close to my kit and nearly no pitting at all on the shell.
THEN... I discovered the next morning in better light that it might be out of round. That was it, so I contacted the manager of the Guitar Center where I bought it from in New Jersey. (I bought it from their website). Fearing the worst, I was blown away when he said no conditions asked, return it and we are good. I live 500 miles away; and wasn't keen to pay shipping, so I figured I would drop off the snare on the way to visit some family in NYC. The next day, I saw on the GC site that the same location had another Supra. I contacted the manager and asked for pics. It was CRAZY mint. As in, almost fake looking. I told him I wanted to exchange for that one, but I didn't want to have both drums on my debit card at once. He pulled the drum from the floor, and pulled it off the website for over a week before I could get up there.
Sure enough, it is an Oct 1970 stamped, Blue/Olive. ZERO pitting. Strainer is perfect. EVEN HAS NEW HEADS. Coated Ambassador top and clear Ambassador bottom. The badge is super, super clean. Was $19 more than the one I returned!!!
Literally so clean that I don't REALLY need to polish it. [EDIT: ok, might be good to polish it after some close-ups in good light]
Very excited. Pics and sound review tomorrow.
