Current value for Gretsch Roundbadge progressive jazz sizes Last viewed: 19 hours ago

Hey guys,

Anyone have a feel for current value on a 60s progressive jazz Roundbadge kit? Not including snare. Silver sparkle. Nice condition. Was charged 4k. Seemed high to me, but maybe it's the Max Roach connection. I love the color and it's all original with no modifies. 20/12/14

Just trying to see if this price is totally off for what this is...Drums haven't arrived yet, so I could maybe back out if need be... This would be a kit I play jazz with and would keep for life.

Tough question. There are so many variables at play here.

I watch prices fairly closely and honestly feel that's a bit high for the kit. I'm one flunky who has opined. There are others. Weigh it all out and then eat some salt. Good luck on whatever direction you take. Great drums, by the by.

I'm new to the Gretsch world...but they are very nice drums indeed. It did seem a bit high, but I just saw an 80s kit in jazzy sizes listed at 3700. I guess it's tough to say. This is my fav finish for Gretsch so I may just go with it...

Please share the Max Roach connection? I am sure that would add value to the kit.

Right now there are some nice looking RB kits on thebay ranging from $1,600 to $2,700.

Max played silver sparkle back in the day. That's about it :)

Maxwells site has some info. Kits with 18s have sky rocketed. Kits with 20s have risen as well, but nowhere nearly as much. Guess it depends on condition and partly the finish...and of course if all original. One of the sets on the bay was modified, which deducts from its value. Funny thing is, I only see a handful of 60s Roundbadge progressive jazz being sold in the entire country. Barely any on craigslist. I didn't see silver sparkle anywhere (not including rewraps) but have seen a few blues. My thinking is these will only become harder to find in 5 years...

I sent a note to Steve Maxwell this past week asking about the current prices of Round Badge drums (since the last update on his website was from 7/09) and he wrote back that:

"The best sets in the best condition and in the best sizes continue to do well, such as 12/14/18 or 12/14/20. The 13/16/20 is slow and the price has suffered some. 13/16/22 still strong. 12/16/20 is strong. 12/13/16/22 are sort of weak at the moment."
