Custom Built Speed King, anyone? Last viewed: 14 hours ago

I did quite a few of these in the past, but, frankly, got a little burnt out on it. Well, it's been some time now AND my health is bouncing back so I have some energy.

Woo hoo!

Anyway, I just finished a Speed King build from scratch for one of our own, and it was fun! Got it super clean, ran a tap or die through every thread, took out the heel hinge and slipped in some nylon bushings... Mobil 1 on it all. Looks pretty good, IMHO, and plays beautifully.

Want one? I have some cores to build, or re-work yours. A build-from-scratch runs about a hundred bucks. Rebuilding yours? It depends... but around half that more or less.

Email at [email protected] or PM...okay?

thumbnail should take you to album...I hope...

The pedal Bill is showing is one he built for me. He is an artist at restoring these old Speed Kings to -better than new- condition. My buddy MickM bought a reworked Speed King from Bill awhile back and he raves about the pedal. I had always wanted one that Bill had worked on, but kept putting it off because I already had one. Mick's recommendation made it an imperative and I took the plunge. It was a mistake to wait.

You can see the results in the photos. Bill put that 60's pedal together for me just the way I wanted it. A real 'custom' Speed king. Worth more, I think, than he asks for them. But I'm not looking a gift horse in the mouth, I got mine!

Highly recommended seller/craftsman. Good communication, smooth as silk transactions, and top quality workmanship at a fair price. Doesn't get any better than that.

I don't know if it's faster or quicker than new...I've never played a new one!

So ... I have no idea. I'm a vintage kind of guy. They feel great for the stuff I do, but I don't play fast or hard. Heel down...that sort of thing...

I'll bet there are a bunch of pedals on the market that would for sure be faster, aren't there?

I have a Yamaha Flying Dragon direct drive that plays faster and harder (I think). Sell it to ya' cheap (compared with new)

I really can't answer your question, but if you'd seriously like to follow up, please send a PM.

Be glad to talk with you about it!

P Shuffle knows what Bill's pedals are like, they're just like the 2, yea, 2 I got from him. The 1st one I bought from a different VDF member was listed as "rebuilt", wasn't. I sent it to Bill and got back a bionic SpeedKing!

I'm one of those guys that once I find something I like and use and it has the possibility of wearing out or something, I get a spare; be prepared you know!

I called or emailed Bill and got another using one of his as a core. I have that one stashed away for "just in case"!

Believe it or else!

Not a bad idea, Mick! I'll send Bill my old one for a refurb and stash it away for a working spare! Cool1

Hi,

Glad to see you back in gear Bill. I was wondering recently what had become of you.

I have a Speed King that Bill rebuilt. A very fine pedal that I use frequently.

I have a couple of other Speed Kings and don't notice a difference in speed. The originals have a bit more slop which I also kind of like, probably from years of playing them into the dirt.

Nice work, Bill

Bill,

My pedal and the cymbals arrived today! I LOVE the pedal! Fast and quiet as a church mouse. My old pedal will go out shortly so you can work your magic on that one too.

Thanks for a great deal, and for a really sweet Speed King!
