Hey guys,

I've been restoring a set of Stewart drums recently. It's a 4 pc and the only stands it came with was for the Snare and the Hats. The ride is mounted to the shell of the bass.

I plan on buying new hardware to replace the pedals (and keep the old) and make everything a little more sturdy. I would like to incorporate two crashes to the setup but would like to keep the whole set small and light while using similar mounting "strategies" as the bass mount (i.e. lightweight cymbal arms). I would also like to keep everything in front of me low so that I can see out in front of the drums. I want to see the audience!

So, I was looking through www.coopersvintagedrums.com and saw the following:

After seeing this, I was inspired! I was thinking I could get two cymbal arms and a couple of clamps and have the same effect as in the picture. Instead of drilling into the floor tom, I would clamp onto the leg. I don't see any issues with this, so long as the cymbal isn't too big and heavy. I think the mount would be fine to hold the weight without slippage.

As for the Hi Hat mounted cymbal though, I had a little concern. The clamp would have to be long enough to get the arm around the hats, and I'm afraid would move the center of gravity of the stand too far off center. I'm curious as to how it would look when it was done. I have never seen anything mounted to the shaft of a hi hat other than stick holders or stuff like that.

Has anybody tried something like this? Any pictures, thoughts or ideas? Would I be better off just buying a stand?
