hi, this is my first post so may not be posting in the right place? But I have a Leedy shelle manne kit very similar to this one in wmp but the badges are copper color on the bass and tom and I don't have the floor tom.

That is one of the coolest wraps ever put on a drum. Looking forward to some more pictures!

This is cool, please post some pictures when you can - check the interiors out for a date stamp. It could be earlier than mine Nov / Dec 1958. That would be cool to see. Thanks, here is another recent picture of my drums - the finish is called FIESTA.

Mike,

That is a very cool looking kit. Is that a cymbal arm mount I see on the bass drum there? I'll bet that kit sounds wonderful.

Mbira,

Welcome to the forum. This is one of the greatest place online, as far as I'm concerned. There's a badge section here — http://www.vintagedrumguide.com/snare_badges.html, and that could help date your drums.

Best.

Stephen yes that is a cymbal arm mount, it is actually an old Leedy & Ludwig mount that it is assumed was among parts that were obtained when Slingerland & Ludwig divided up the inventory of Leedy / Ludwig when Conn sold the company to them.

See DrCJW post #9 on page one of this thread. The neat thing is that the hole spacing for this mount is identical to the Slingerland shell mount cymbal holder hole spacing so you could interchange the part if you wanted to functionally use the cymbal holder, because this one really does not hold well.

These drums have a warm rich tone, and I have calf heads on all the drums. They are wonderful drums.

This actually is a 6 year old thread!

This is interesting information.

My very first kit was supposedly a Leedy kit, but it had no badges on the toms. It was a 20X14 bass, 8X12 up and 16X16 down. The bass and floor tom sounded killer on that kit...

Mahogany (interior) shells with maple rings. The detail that caught my attention, besides the indication these Leedy-Slingerland era drums may not have had badges, was also the "double flat X head screws" which I seem to remember my drums had.

Also, I'd like to point out the wrap was rolled in with the plies of the shell- I know this because I destroyed these drums when I pulled the wrap and painted them (inside and out) with Chinese red paint. (before that I stained the wood shells).

So, it is long gone, but the maker of these drums was always a mystery to me...

I have access to the remains of these drums, but I don't think I have the lug casings. Those were more like Slingerland than the few Leedy lug casings I have seen over the years (and further reinforcement of what I had).

I will be watching this thread as I clearly destroyed a piece of history, but if it is a consolation, I played those drums for at least 14 years...Lame

Jim,

I think somewhere in the early 60's Slingerland began to make the Leedy toms like the Slingerland toms (that is with no vent hole or badges on those drums).

I am not sure about the wrap scarfing but will check my drums tomorrow & report back.

Hi Mike, sorry for not checking back sooner. I will take some pics perhaps tomorrow. there is no date inside that i can see. but they are stamped p-022 i think. I also have other leedy drums that are older which I can post about after these. Your Leedys look amazing what a finish!

I am not planning on selling at the moment just want to get a sense of the value of drums i have. let me know if you need more pics and if there is an easy way to resize all pics that I want to upload and not each separately. thanks so much. BTW I am a drummer and enjoy playing these drums I am not a dealer.
