Dating Pearl-built drums by lug style- Last viewed: 1 hour ago

Loading...

I notice from time to time that drum sets or single drums posted on our site, built by Pearl ,have build years that don't coincide with the catalog scans. I'd assume, for instance that stencils would get updated hardware after the main-line drums. Does anyone know for instance when "Battleship" lugs were introduced? Or "President" lugs? Or what year rering drums were discontinued? I own a "Dixie" 8-lug steel snare that I'd assumed was built around 1970, but there is a Coronet snare, which is basically identical, listed with a 1967 build date. Maybe...no-one REALLY knows...

tev - Dating 'American made' drums is hard enough and obtaining accurate info can be a very 'dicey proposition' all by itself. I can't imagine that records for Japanese/Asian made drums will fare any better in terms of accuracy of dating, materials; shells, parts, hardware, or even catalog comparisons to actual kits, etc.

Good luck with that one!

John

Too many great drums to list here!
