Found this set of Slingerland drums on CL. -

The best the guy said he could do on the shells is $450. I offered $300 because the toms have pearl mounts. My goal was to get the kit, plug all those holes, leave the original wrap on and just get a small piece of wmp and cut out enough to cover the plugged holes. Now for the snare alone this may be a deal at $450. Said It's a chrome over brass Rogers Powertone snare. I figured if I got these at 300, I could do that little bit of work and comfortably ask 600-800 for the kit. Again not a collector, but a really good players kit. Thoughts?

I think your plan makes sense. It could be just the lighting but the 13 looks like it might have been an add on and not part of the original kit. The wrap has a different looking pattern. You'll be able to tell when you get a look in person. Not that it's a big deal for a players kit, but it could justify offering less. It's definitely worth a look see. Good luck!

They certainly look to be in good shape. Do you know when they are from? I noticed the base drum does not have T-rods.

Doesn't list the year. In this photo you can see a few T-rods on the bass drum, and from what I can see of the mounts, it looks like maybe this had a swiv o matic set-up. But I'm not 100%

ARCHxANGEL, the Powertone COB alone is worth $300. Maybe offer 350/400. If I were you I'd jump on it, maybe call the guy and lock it in and just a word of advise, you should cut and paste the pics and not mention ** cause there are people out there that will jump on front of you. Maybe edit your post. Good luck, Rich

Every time I've had that thought on a Slingerland kit and did the work it's never panned out for more than $450. Just my experience.

Indeed - I agree, as this market is a buyer's market - but this is especially true for Slingers. A COB Rogers Powertone is a different story though.

I had a great day! Instead of sleeping in and wasting the day, I got up at 8 and I had all my slacking done by noon!

Some of you guys are real vultures. Taking advantage of some poor sap who may not know the value of what he has. I applaud you.Clapping Happy2

$600 set at best. Look around. There's a nice. Clubdate type set withou extra extra holes on the forum with no takers at $600. The Rogers is worth a couple Hun, and the bastardized set another 4 to 5.....

COB Powertones in good shape are selling for $150 to $200 currently.

In my opinion, the Slingerlands are not a money maker....any time or money spent to bring them closer to original can't be recouped in a re-sale....it would not change their status from less than players grade. It might be a fun project to work on, and there's an experiential value to that, but I'd keep my expectations low as far as making any money goes.....:):)

Good luck with it, Jay, whatever you decide to do!!
