Did all Slingerland TDR Snares have 4 Vent holes Last viewed: 27 minutes ago

I'm trying to determine if my 14"x6.5" chrome over brass snare is a 1979 TDR or a 1976 - 1977 Buddy Rich.

Pages 190 and 191 of Rob Cook's Slingerland book are my point of reference.

The description for the Buddy Rich says it has 3 vent holes. The description for the TDR snare is a little confusing. It says the Spitfire model TDR snare has 4 vent holes but I'm not clear if all TDR snares had 4 vent holes or not.

The badges, throws, lugs, etc are the same (I think) on both the TDR and the Buddy Rich models so the vent holes are about the only thing I have to go on.

Thanks

Hmmmm? No one has a TDR snare that's not a Spitfire where you can check how many air vents it has?

The Spitfire also had 12 lugs in lieu of 10 lugs as found on the TDR and the Buddy Rich models.

Thank you sir. I'll go with this being a TDR model and not the Buddy Rich.

I wonder what the other differences were between the two models? Must be something or they wouldn't have made 2 different models.

Thanks again.

My 12 lug Spitfire has 4 vent holes. I assumed the 12 lug drums had 4 vent holes and the 10 lug drums had 3 vent holes.

I'm definitely no authority though!

The four vent holes definitely dries this drum out. Kind of reminds me of the Ludwig hammered bronze I used to own. I like this drum better though.

I have a 10 lug 1979 Radio King re-issue with TDR strainer, it has 3 vent holes.

Never play it the same way once.
